Buying Digital Camera Batteries
Digital cameras run on batteries and there are many varieties available in the market. Some cameras can consume batteries at an alarming rate. This makes it important to know what goes into buying digital camera batteries and what battery your camera needs.
Types of Batteries
There are many types of batteries available for use in digital cameras. These are proprietary batteries, alkaline AA size batteries, Nickel-hydride batteries and Nickel-Cadmium batteries. Therefore, it can be a difficult job buying digital camera batteries that are perfect for your camera.
The Proprietary Batteries
These are available as made by the manufacturers. They are rechargeable and expensive. While buying digital camera batteries they become a setback owing to their price. It is not economically viable to buy two of them at the same time. However, they are lighter and more compact.
The AA Size Batteries
These batteries are easily available and can be bought at a reasonable rate. They are more attractive and can be carried as emergency back ups. While buying digital camera batteries it should be kept in mind that their life is very short, often less than an hour.
The Nickel-Hydride Batteries
These batteries are a better bet than the AA batteries owing to their recharge capability. They serve the same functions as the alkaline batteries but can be recharged using a charger; on the other hand they are not as expensive as the proprietary batteries. They also have a longer life than the alkaline batteries. They are a preferable choice while buying digital camera batteries.
The Nickel- Cadmium and Lithium Batteries
The first type is chargeable while the second type is a non-rechargeable AA size battery. The lithium batteries have a longer life than the alkaline AA batteries and perform well under cold weather conditions, while the Nickel Cadmium batteries retain their charge unlike Nickel-Hydride batteries. However Ni-Cad batteries need to be discharged fully before being charged and can be deemed inconvenient while the cost of the lithium batteries makes them inconvenient. These are the pros and cons that one should keep in mind while buying digital camera batteries.
It would be helpful for a customer to know that a LCD screen is highly battery consuming and often the reason for lower battery life. The above mentioned properties should help you decide on just the right kind of battery for your camera.
